Toph is the only daughter of Lao Bei Fong, one of the richest (if not THE richest) men in the Earth Kingdom. Blind since birth, Toph has been restricted by her parents who believe that because of her disability she is helpless and fragile. They have sheltered her to such an extent that no one outside of the Bei Fong home knows that she exists.

Toph is an Earthbender, a very skilled one because earthbending helps her "see". She uses the vibrations of the earth to figure out where everything is, from a tree to a tiny ant to another person. This, combined with her excellent hearing, makes it difficult for anyone to sneak up on her. Toph's parents hired a Master, Master Wu, to teach Toph earthbending but made him keep her at the basics so that she wouldn't hurt herself. Desiring a challenge Toph snuck out of the house one night and entered the underground Earthbending tournament "Earth Rumble". She created the identity of "The Blind Bandit" and swiftly gained the title of Champion, as well as becoming a favorite with the fans.

After her secret life was outed to her parents and restrictions on her life were tightened, Toph ran away from home to join the Avatar gang and become Aang's Earthbending teacher. That was before she one day walked away from the group and wound up walking into a post-apocalyptic version of Earth where people from dozens of different worlds were struggling to survive.

And just recently, Toph has made the transfer from Apocalpytica to Eden. Fun times ahead...
